Brazil strong in their first match
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 1, 2011. - Brazil did not have
difficulties to win its first match in the X Women’s Pan
American Volleyball Cup by defeating Trinidad & Tobago 3-0
(25-15, 25-12, 25-18) at Universidad Autónoma Ciudad Juarez.
The Trinidadians had several good moments during the match, one
of them leading the third set.
Thaisa Menezes recorded 13 points to lead Brazil followed by
Sheila Castro with 12. For Trinidad & Tobago, the young Channon
Thompson led her team with 11 points and Krystle Esdelle added
10 points.
Captain from Brazil, Fabiana Claudino said “I liked how we
played; our blocks were effective and were all happy to be in
Mexico for the Cup.”
A very excited Krystle Esdelle, captain for Trinidad & Tobago
indicated that it is an honor to play against world champions.
“My whole team was excited to play, we had a good time, and the
only thing we had in mind was to do our best”.
Coach Jose Guimaraes of Brazil said: “We played well from start
to finish as I expected, the team was concentrated and our
service was powerful.”
Trinidad & Tobago’s coach Cuban Francisco Cruz expressed: “I’m
satisfied with what my team did in the court and with what they
didn’t do. This is really a good experience for my team that has
just a few years of playing together.” |
