Cuba outclasses Chile
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 3, 2011 – Cuba
outclassed winless Chile in consecutive sets (25-10, 25-10,
25-14) to register its third victory without losses in Pool A of
the 10th Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup on Sunday.
Their advantage at the net allowed the winners to
score 13 points via block to only 3 by the inexperienced Chilean
side.
Yoana Palacio was Cuba’s top scorer with 15
points –including five blocks and one ace- followed by Kenia
Carcaces and Yusidey Silie with eight apiece.
“This was a preparation match for the upcoming
games.”
Silie
said.
“I think Chile did what they could.”
“The Cuban team was superior by far and they
didn’t allow us to play,” Chilean Francisca Espejo said.
“We are working step by step and our instructions
were to play hard until point 25,” Cuba’s Juan Gala said. “Chile
has some good individual athletes who need to keep working.”
“They never slowed down and we couldn’t block or
pass cleanly,” Chile’s Hugo Jáuregui said. |
