Puerto Rico turns up the heat in Pool B
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 4, 2011.- Puerto Rico now has a 2-2
win-loss record with Monday’s victory over Trinidad & Tobago by
3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) in Pool B action at the 10th
Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup.
Puerto Rico turned on the heat in Pool B becoming a strong
threat to make the quarterfinals ahead of a decisive match
against Peru on Tuesday. As for Trinidad & Tobago’s performance
didn´t show much effort.
Yarimar Rosa led Puerto Rico with 11 attack points, and the team
took advantage of 23 opponent errors. Trinidadian Kelly-Anne
Billingy with 10 points was the best for her side.
Vilmarie Mojica said: “Puerto Rico has a well adjusted team and
we worked together, willingly things will turn out right
tomorrow against Peru.”
Always positive, Krystle Esdelle from Trinidad & Tobago
expressed: “Today we put the pressure on ourselves as we began
too relaxed and it showed in the result.”
David Alemán, Puerto Rico’s coach knows that errors must be cut
down. “Our margin of errors was less and we benefited of
Trinidad’ mistakes.”
Coach Francisco Cruz of Trinidad & Tobago said his team wasn’t
at the level they know how to play. “Today’s performance was
lower than it should but this is normal for inexperienced
teams.” |
