CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 7, 2011 - Peru scored a victory over Mexico by score of 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) in the last match of Thursday at Universidad Ciudad Juarez, and stayed in contention for the 5-8 places at the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.

Mexico’s Xitlali Herrera had to be replaced as she dislocated her left thumb while blocking during the second set.  Peru and Mexico featured a duel with a very narrow margin.

Angelica Aquino with 15 points, Karla Ortiz with 12 and Mirtha Uribe with 11 led Peru to the victory. Karla Sainz, Martha Revuelta and Dulce Carranza with 9 points each, were the best for the locals.

Peruvian, Diana Soto said: “Peru is improving with each match but we keep making errors and we must reduce them to reach an international level.”

Mexican Martha Revuelta expressed: “We weren’t able to concentrate and close the win”.

As for Peru’s coach, the Italian Luca Cristofani he is not satisfied with his teams’ performance. “I am still not content, there are many mistakes that can’t be done against our next opponent, Argentina, and I hope that one night might be enough to think things over.”

Mexican Mario Herrera said: “The players couldn’t concentrate after Xitlali’s injury, added to the fact that in Mexico we lack of continuity.”
