NORCECA U-19 Boy’s Championship officially announced

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 28, 2012 - The NORCECA U-19 Boy’s Continental Championship was officially announced to the media at the Fiesta Inn Hotel on Thursday.

The eight-team competition is scheduled from July 2 to 7 and will take place at the Baja California High Performance Center in Tijuana. Delegations start to arrive on Friday.

Cuba, Costa Rica, French St Martin and Nicaragua will compete in Pool A while hosts Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States and U.S. Virgin Islands are to battle in Pool B.

The pool’s winner advances directly to the semifinal round while teams placed second and third will clash in crossed matches in the quarterfinals.

The tournament offers two tickets to next year’s FIVB U-19 World Championship to be held in the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali. Host country Mexico is already qualified but will participate as part of its preparation process.

“This will be a tough and important competition, due to the level in our zone with teams like Cuba, USA and Puerto Rico,” NORCECA Executive Vice President and Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Director, Saul Castro Verdugo commented.
