PANAMA CITY, Panama, June 21, 2011 –The coaches of the eight
teams taking part in the U-21 Men’s Pan American Cup made their
statements about their objectives during a press conference held
on Tuesday.
Coaches’ statements:
Georges Laplante, Canada: “We are here in Panama to be
champions and we are going to battle against strong teams like
Chile, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and México that are also well
prepared with the same goal.”
Daniel Nejamkin, Chile: “We have a mixed team with four
players born in 1991, and eight in 1995. We want to show what we
do in Chile and to improve with the tournament and advance to
the next phase.”
Osmel Vásquez, Dominican Republic: “We will battle to be
among the top five in the tournament. This is the same team of
the NORCECA 2010 and our expectations are to finish as high as
possible.”
Alex Godoy, Honduras: “This is a U-21 tournament but
since we have an upcoming youth tournament we are here with
players born in ’93 and ’95 so given the magnitude of the
tournament our expectations are not very high.”
Javier Jim Francisco, México: “We are not the favorites
to win the tournament and that distinction goes to Venezuela or
Canada, but Mexico comes to do things well an d to battle in the
tournament.”
Elio Clarke, Panamá: “We have seen these guys to grow up
little by little and we want to get the experience for the
upcoming Central American tournaments, because we know the
quality of the teams from South and North America.”
Carlos Rodríguez, Puerto Rico: “Besides of improving our
quality game, our goal is to finish among the top-four. We don’t
have some of our players that are in the World League and some
other that couldn’t come due to study reasons but we are here to
battle hard.”
Ídolo Herrera, Venezuela: “Our main objective is to
participate because this is the first Pan American tournament
and we are here to give seasoning to our guys. We don’t feel as
favorites because there are three or four teams with that goal,
and that includes Panama.” |
