Puerto Rico defeats Mexico in straight sets

 

CIUDAD PANAMA, June 22, 2011 – Puerto Rico started with the right foot at the U-21 Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup defeating Mexico 3-0 (25-18, 25-21 y 25-22)on Wednesday.

 

Noah Marrero led the winners with 12 points followed by Josué Rivera with 11 and José Ribas, Emanuel Romero and Ramón Burgos with 9 apiece.For Mexico, Juan Revuelta and Jorge Cabrera had 8 and 7 points respectively.

 

Both coaches, Carlos Rodríguez of Puerto Rico and Francisco Javier Jim of Mexico, said their teams didn’t have the time to prepare for the tournament and the match helped to correct mistakes for the next two games.

 

Rivera, the captain of Puerto Rico, said: “We miss some important players who couldn’t come due to injuries or study reasons, but we had a good game and it is good to start winning and go step by step.”

 

Revuelta said the match was a good experience. “Despite the loss, we showed we can give more in this tournament and we still hope to qualify to the next round,” he said.
