Venezuela beats Dominican Republic
CIUDAD PANAMA, Panamá, June 22, 2011 – Venezuela
defeated Dominican Republic 3-0 (26-24, 25-20 y 25-20) in a
match of Pool A of the U-21 Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup.
Jhoser Contreras topped Venezuela with 17 points
followed by Kervin Piñerúa with 13 and Daniel Arteaga with 10
points. Amaury Burgos and Henry Tapia finished with 15 and 10
for Dominican Republic.
At the end of the match, Venezuela’s coach
Gilberto Herrera commented that despite the score in straight
sets, it was an intense match with a lot of nervousness in both
teams playing for the first time.
Carlos Paez, the captain of Venezuela, said “we
were very nervous but we got motivation and followed the
instructions of our coach and we responded with good serves.”
Dominican Republic’s coach Osiel Vasquez said:
“We presented a good game, battled and went beyond of what the
rivals were dictating, but they dominated with their serves
especially in the first set.”
Dominican player Kelvyn Campechano remarked on
the serves of their opponents but despite of the outcome they
were ready to battle against them. |
