Chile defeats Mexico to win Pool B
PÁNAMA CITY, June 24, 2011 – Chile defeated Mexico in four sets
(26-24, 25-23, 18-25 y 25-21) to claim first place in Pool B of
the first U-21 Men’s Pan American Cup in Panama City.
Chilean Tomás Parraguirre led his team with 21 points followed
by his brother Vicente Parraguirre with 15 while Dusan Bonasic
added 12. For Mexico, Juan Revuelta and Daniel Sanchez charted
15 points apiece and Jorge Cabrera scored 12.
Chile’s coach Daniel Nejamkin once again lauded the job made by
his group even though he admitted it was not their best game.
“The most important thing is that we put to rest the comments
before the competition that we were not going to overcome this
phase and now we will wait for our rival in the semifinals.”
Tomas Parraguirre stressed on the unity of the group in those
moments when they lost the set adding that “we have the capacity
and game level to make the finals.”
Mexico’s coach Francisco Javier Jim insisted on the lack of
preparation before the tournament, but he hopes to finish in a
position which motivates them to plan for the future. Captain
Juan Revuelta agreed, and was satisfied with his performance and
contributions to his team that never quit.” |
