Canada crushes
Dominican in three sets
PANAMA CITY, Panama, June 25, 2011 – Canada outplayed Dominican
Republic in straight sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) to reach the
semifinals at the U-21 Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The Canadians applied a lot of pressure with their serves and
their offense was far better than the Caribbean’s.
Nicholas Hoag was the most outstanding Canadian with 14 points
while Dominican Ricardo Rijo finished with 10 tallies.
Canada’s coach Georges Laplante said that his team finally
worked together, and took advantage of the breaks, improved the
serves and made things better.
Laplante said in the semifinals they will meet again with Chile
and predicted a great match-up. “It will be a chance to defeat
them, now that they know them from the pool play,” he said.
Dominican Republic’s coach Osiel Vasquez and captain Kelvyn
Campechano both agreed on that the Canadian team was superior
and deserved the victory. |
