Coaches anticipate strong competition ahead in Chiapas

CHIAPAS, México, June 14, 2009.- The seven head coaches that will participate in the fourth edition of the Men’s Pan American Cup are expecting a good competition and the best effort on court from their teams.

 

Jorge Azair (MEX): “We hope to have a good performance and to get a spot in the 2010 edition of America’s Cup, and I am confident about a good support here in Tuxtla Gutierrez and the whole State.”

 

George Laplante (CAN): “We are in a group of three teams, but they are teams of great level. We have worked in order to have a good performance.”

 

Jacinto Campechano (DOM): “We are in a strong group and we are going to go out with a lot of determination in every match.”

 

Reidel Lucas (GUA): “We are very satisfied with the invitation to participate and we are going to take advantage of the opportunity to get more experience for our future compromises.”

 

Sergio Ballesta (PAN): “We are happy about participating. Originally we were not coming, but with the support from Norceca here we are. We are going to play hard and use the event as preparation for the Worlds’ next round.”

 

Ramón Hernández (PUR): “This is the firs competition in the new cycle and we want to do a good job. We have worked hard and I am confident of the capability of my team.”

 

Richard McLaughlin (USA): “We have the opportunity to evaluate our two opponents before going to the court. We are in a strong group and we have to concentrate in each game with a different strategy, but with the same goal.”

 

The action of the Fourth Pan American Cup will take place at the Polyforum of the Tuxtla Gutierrez city and the event is a qualifier for the top three teams to the 2010 America’s Cup in Brazil, besides being the first step towards a new qualification system for the prestigious FIVB World League.

 

Teams have been divided in two groups. In Group A are United States, Canada and Dominican Republic while in Group B are Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama and Guatemala.

 

The matches of first day of the competition are:

 

16:00    Puerto Rico vs. Panama

 

18:00    Dominican Republic vs. Canada

 

20:00    Mexico vs. Guatemala
