Lisvel Eve named MVP at Women’s Final Four Cup



HAVANA, July 7, 2015 – Lisvel Eve Mejia, was named the Most Valuable Player of the NORCECA Women’s Final Four Cup held at the Sports City Coliseum where her Dominican Republic team and Cuba clinched the two tickets available for the World Cup in Japan.


Cuban Melissa Vargas, the top scorer of the competition, and Puerto Rican Aurea Cruz were the two Best Outside Hitters while Cuban Daymara Lescay and Canadian Lucille Charuk made the All-Star Team as the two Middle Blockers.


Puerto Rican Karina Ocasio was named the Best Opposite while her sister Sheila Ocasio finished as Best Server.


Canada’s Jennifer Lundquist and Janie Guimod were selected as Best Setter and Best Libero while Dominican Brenda Castillo and Cuban Emily Borrel were Best Digger and Best Receiver, respectively.


Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico ended with identical number of wins and losses (2-1), while Canada finished winless.


While the Dominicans totalled 10 points, Cuba and Puerto Rico both finished with 9 points and second place was decided by point-ratio with Cuba besting Puerto Rico 1.06 to 1.06.
