Puerto Ricans and Canadians keep winning streak


GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 21, 2010 – First ranked team of Orlando Irizarry and Joseph Gil of Puerto Rico and Canadian duo of Martin Reader and Ray Sewell continued their successful run advancing to the semi final round of the Cayman Islands Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament.

Irizarry and Gil now play against the USA Team of Jeff Moran and Ivan Mercer who entered the semi final phase through the loser’s bracket in the double elimination event. Reader and Sewell will meet compatriots Maverick Match and Ben Saxton of Canada-2.

The Puerto Ricans had to play to the limit to win their two matches of Saturday. They first defeating Seth Burhanm and Lucas Wisniakowski of USA-2 by score of 14-21, 21-19, 15-13 and then Match and Saxton 15-21, 21-15, 15-13. Meanwhile, Reader and Sewell scored a 21-16, 21-14 victory against Puerto Rico-2 of Daniel Erazo and Erick Hadock and then beat Moran and Mercer 21-16, 21-11.

Americans Moran and Mercer kept their hopes alive by edging Jamaicans Mark Lewis and Dany Wilson 21-15, 16-21, 15-13 and Canadians Match and Saxton entered the semi finals with a 21-13, 21-9 win against Burhanm and Wisniakowski.

The closing ceremony at Seven Miles Beach will be attended by the Honorable Primer Minister of Cayman Islands H.E. W. Makeeva Bush marking the first time the top authority of a country is present in this type of event in the NORCECA Confederation.
