Marte Hoffiz welcomes Mejía Oviedo, new IOC member

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 17, 2017 – NORCECA president Cristobal Marte Hoffiz was one of several Dominican sports personalities present at Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo to welcome Mr. Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee who was elected as one of the new nine members of the IOC last Friday in Lima, Peru.

“Mr. Mejía Oviedo is a personal close friend who has shown solidarity to all the initiatives of NORCECA Confederation and a loyal follower with all the activities of volleyball at a regional and world level,” Marte Hoffiz said. “So I am here to reciprocate his constant appreciation to our activities.”

Mejía Oviedo, 64, is the second Dominican elected as IOC member. His predecessor was the late Roque Napoleon Muñoz, who also presided over the Dominican Olympic Committee.

Mejia Oviedo has a degree in Finance from Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and is an expert in communications.

Under his leadership the Dominican Olympic Committee has gone throughout a process of renovation, especially in the area of communications.

He also has implemented in association with private field corporations, a program under the title of “Creating Olympic Dreams” to support up and coming athletes.
