Canada’s women teams reach semis in Chiapas

CHIAPAS, Mexico, May 15, 2010 -  The fifth stop of NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit, being placed at Puerto Arista, is nearing its final and following the second day we have the women pairs qualified to  the semi finals. They are: Canada 1 (Jamie Broter/Elizabeth Cordonier), CanadA 2 (Heather Bansley/Elizabeth Maloney), Cuba (Imara Estévez/Ion Canet) and Puerto Rico (Yarleen Santiago/Dariam Acevedo).

Broter y Cordonier of CAN 1 reached this stage by defeating Costa Rica (Ingrid Morales/Natalia Alfaro), by score of 2-0 (21-15 y 21-6). The other Canadian tandem of Bansley and Maloney, beat Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramírez of Guatemala by score of 2-0 (21-17, 21-11), in the quarterfinal’s losers bracket .

Puerto Rico (Santiago and Acevedo) defeated Costa Rica (Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro) in the losers round by score of 2-0 (21-15, 21-16. Cuba (Canet and Estévez) made it into the semi finals with a 2-0  (21-17, 21-16) victory over Guatemala.

The semi finals will be played on Sunday, May 16, at the beach of Puerto Arista, starting at 9:00 a. m. with the matches CAN 1 vs. PUR y CAN 2 vs. CUB.

Saturday’s women results: CAN 1 d. CRC (21-15,21-6), CUB d. GUA (21-17, 21-16), CAN 2 d. MEX 2 (21-12, 21-14), PUR d. USA (19-21, 21-15, 19-17), CAN 2 d. GUA (21-17, 21-11) y PUR d. CRC (21-15, 21-16).
