Mayaguez is one win away from first title
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, May 5, 2013 – The Mayaguez Indians need
one more victory to claim their first title in the Puerto Rico
Women’s Volleyball Superior League after defeating the Corozal
Pinkin 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 26-28, 25-21) on Sunday.
The Indians lead the best-of-seven final series with a 3-0
win-loss record winning the first three matches by identical 3-1
score.
Sarai Álvarez topped Mayaguez with 21 points, including two
blocks and one ace, while American Danielle Scott-Arruda
contributed three blocks among her 16 points. Yarimar Rosa and
Shonda Cole each tallied 13 points for the winners.
Dominican Prisilla Rivera led the defeated side with 18 points
while Kim Willoughby and Jessica Candelario finished with 14 and
10 respectively.
The fourth match of the series is scheduled on Tuesday in
Corozal.
