Mayaguez takes the lead in Puerto Rico

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, May 1, 2013 – The Mayaguez Indians defeated the Corozal Pinkin 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22), in the opening match of the best-of-seven final series of the Puerto Rican Women’s League on Wednesday.

The Americans Shonda Cole and Danielle Scott-Arruda led five players of the winning side who finished with double figures in the score charts with 21 and 19 points, respectively, while Puerto Ricans Yarimar Rosa, Amanda Vásquez y Sarai Álvarez had 16, 12 y 10.

For the defeated side, American Kim Willoughby had 19 points while Dominicans Prisilla Rivera and Gina Mambrú finished with 18 and 16 respectively.

The next match of the series will be on Friday at Corozal.
