Mejia praises growth of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in NORCECA

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 20, 2013 – The president of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee praised the NORCECA Volleyball Confederation and all its affiliated national institutions for the advance of the sport of volleyball and beach volleyball in the region.

“NORCECA must be considered as an example of a sport organization making all the possible efforts to elevate its discipline to the highest level,” Luis Mejia Oviedo said during a meeting with the NORCECA members of the Executive Committee and Board of Administration.

“Beach Volleyball is the fastest growing sport in the world and one of the most appealing as it was shown during the London Olympics,” Mejía said. “And the popularity and growth within NORCECA is not different to other parts of the world.”

Mejía was accompanied by Pedro Cabrera Isidron, the director of international relations and communications of the Cuban Sport Institute, who is officially visiting the Dominican Republic.

He was introduced to the members of the EC and BOA by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA and First Executive Vice President of FIVB.

The members of the governing bodies of NORCECA are celebrating their annual meetings in Santo Domingo, deciding on the proposals submitted by the different commissions that already held their particular meetings the previous months.

Those members present during the meeting were: Doug Beal, 2nd Executive Vice President, Vice Presidents Marta Centeno de Sajche, Hugh Wong, Mushtaque Mohammed and Glenn Quinlan. Also Honorary Vice President Jacques Joachim, Secretary General Jose Luis Jimenez Lao, Treasurer Jesus Prieto, and members Sabinah Clement, Bertha Cuadra, Mireya Luis, Lucille Hobson and Elliott Matias who represented Nelson Perez.
