Men’s World Championship Pools announced in Florence

FLORENCE, Italy, November 30, 2017 - The draw for the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Italy-Bulgaria 2018 on Thursday mapped out the road ahead for the 24 teams set to participate in next year's event.

Co-hosts Italy were paired with Argentina, Japan, Belgium, Slovenia and the Dominican Republic in Pool A in Rome and Florence, while host Bulgaria will take on reigning world champions Poland, Iran, Cuba, Finland and Puerto Rico in Pool D to be contested in Varna.

In Pool B, Olympic champions Brazil and Canada will play France, Egypt, China and the Netherlands in Ruse, Bulgaria while in Pool C USA and Russia will be up against Serbia, Australia, Tunisia and Cameroon in Bari, Italy.

Held in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the draw split the 24 teams participating in the event into four first round pools of six teams each. The top four teams in each of these pools will progress to a second round featuring two pools of eight teams. The top three from each of the second round pools will qualify for the third round before four teams move on to the semifinals and finals.
