Mets score first victory in Puerto Rico Final Series

 

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, January 29, 2014 – The Guaynabo Mets claimed the victory in the first match of the best-of-seven KIA Great Final Series of the Puerto Rican Men’s Volleyball Superior League at Mario Morales Coliseum on Wednesday.

 

Guaynabo won the match by scores of 25-12, 25-18, 23-25, 25-11 relying on a strong defense at the net with a total of 12 blocks to only 6 by the defeated side. The winners also led 7-3 in the aces category.


Jackson Rivera, who had four blocks, led all the players in the match with 21 points in the victory. Jean Carlos Ortiz and Pablo Guzman contributed 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Enrique Escalante added 11.

 

Hector Soto was the lone double-figure scorer for the defeated side with 11 tallies.

 

The second match of the series will take place at Arecibo on Friday.
