Mexicans Cruz and Burnside score major upset

Burnside of Mexico-A upset the champions of the previous phase
Jamie Broder and Sophie Bukovec of Canada-A with a 2-0 (21-19,
22-20) outcome in opening day of the fourth stage of NORCECA
Beach Volleyball Circuit.
The Mexicans had won against Natalia Giron and Estephanie
Bethancourt (Guatemala) 2-0 (23-21, 21-13) and lead the Group C,
they would eventually win on Saturday against Brenda Allen/Genelle
Howell, who lost both their outings.
The three pairs of Cuba and United States-B also are undefeated
at 2-0 after the conclusion of the actions of day one at Barcelo
Solymar Arenas Blancas Hotel.
In Pool A, the winners at La Paz and Cayman Islands, Leila
Martinez and Lidianny Echeverría and the visitors Jace Pardon
and Lara Dykstra; in Pool B, the young debutants Maylen Deliz
and Arlin Hechavarria and in Pool C, the vice champions in Ocho
Rios, Jamaica, Lianma Flores and Yanildeydis Sanchez.
Leila/Lidy and Pardon/Dykstra both scored victories over
Nicaragua’s Mendoza/Loelette and Hendrick/Ibarra (Mexico-B) all
matches in two sets, and they will face each other with the two
teams already qualified to next round.

by scores of 21-14, 22-20 and Melanie Valenciana/Katherine
Walker of U.S. Virgin Islands by 21-11, 21-11 in Pool B.
