Mexico and Cuba open with victories in Pool F
MEXICO CITY, Mexico, June 6, 2014. – Hosts Mexico and Cuba
opened with victories over Tunisia and Turkey, respectively, in
Pool F of the FIVB World League at Sports Palace Juan Escutia on
Friday
Mexico defeated Tunisia 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 while Cuba prevailed
against debutants Turkey
25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 33-31.
Mexico's tactical strategy included very efficient blocking,
making it impossible for Tunisians to score easily; the blocking
stats showed a huge difference by 10-0.
Tomas Aguilera was Mexico’s best scorer with 11 points and Kaabi
Hichem was Tunisia’s top scorer with 12 points.
Rolando Cepeda was the most prolific scorer of the match with 27
points followed by Osmany Uriarte and Isbel Mesa with 17 and 11,
respectively, in the victory.
Turkey’s Metin Toy finished with 19 points followed by Burak
Gungor with 15 tallies, in the loss.
Saturday’s schedule features Tunisia against Cuba and hosts
Mexico face Turkey. |
