Mexico and Cuba undefeated in Pool F
MEXICO, Mexico, June 7, 2014 – Mexico won a five-set thriller
over Turkey (23-25, 31-29, 16-25, 27-25, 19-17) that delighted
the crowd at the Sports Palace Juan Escutia in Pool F of the
FIVB Volleyball World League on Saturday.
On Sunday’s action Mexico squares off Cuba in a match between
undefeated sides (2-0) while winless Turkey meets Tunisia.
Tomas Aguilera led Mexico in scoring with 16 points, followed by
Jesus Valdes with 14 points. Pedro Rangel and Daniel Vargas each
contributed 9 points in the victory.
Metin Toy scored a match-high 19 points in a losing effort for
Turkey. Turgay Dogan added 13 while Samet Gunes and Murat
Karakya finished with 12 points apiece.
Also on Saturday, Cuba beat Tunisia 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-19,
25-21). Rolando Cepeda led Cuba with 20 points and Osmany Mestre
added 17 in the victory.
The Cubans held margins of 11-6 and 8-2 in blocks and serves,
respectively.
Hamza Nagga was the top scorer for the defeated side with 19
tallies. |
