Mexico scores first victory

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 5, 2021 – Mexico registered its first victory at the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup after beating winless Suriname 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-17) in the first match on Sunday.

En route to the victory, the Mexicans outscored Suriname in attacks (32-18), aces (10-1) and in blocks (12-5).

Gabriel Cruz and Alexis Garay led Mexico with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while serving three aces apiece. Keven Sporkslede and Zefanio Breinburg each had 7 points for Suriname

Jorge Azair, coach of Mexico: “Today I had the chance to move around the whole team. The important thing is to gain confidence back. In today’s practice we focused on correcting the points we were missing. And for us, the competition really starts tomorrow”.

Augusto Sabbatini, coach of Suriname: “Well, today the team played much better. We had a good training session and in the match we had better tactics than yesterday against Dominican Republic. What he have to do is keep working hard.”
