Mexico starts with victory at NORCECA U18

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 2, 2016 - Mexico opened the NORCECA U-18 Championship beating Costa Rica in Pool A action.

Mexico controlled the match (25-20, 25-16, 25-16) needing only 78 minutes for their first win of the tournament.

"It was a very elaborate game, many unforced errors, the girls looked nervous for being their first international game. We must improve for the next games as they are more relaxed and gain more confidence. I believe that we must work on our blocking for tomorrow," said Mexico coach Ricardo Naranjo.

Mexican captain, Karla Mireles agreed with her coach. "I think we started nervous being the first game to us, but the teamwork led us to victory. For the next matches we wll be better in the reception and block”.

Meanwhile, Andrés López, coach of Costa Rica said: "The important thing was that we had good successes in the first set, but then our game was very erratic in the other two. We have to minimize mistakes for the next matches."

Mexico’s next game will be on Saturday at 16:00 (local time) against French St. Maarten, while Costa Rica will face hosts Puerto Rico at 20:00.
