Molina’s six aces lead Puerto Rico over Jamaica

 

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 20, 2017 - Puerto Rico opened its participation at the II U19 Boys Pan Am Cup with a victory in straight sets against Jamaica by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15.

 

Despite the defeat in straight sets, for the Jamaican this was a very good experience, after showing pride and a great attitude. The team coached by Steve Davis fought hard and almost got even in the third with a slight 11-14 deficit.

 

Pedro Molina and Gabriel García finished as top scorers for Puerto Rico, after registering 16 and 14 points respectively. Molina aced six times while Garcia three. On the Jamaican side, Andrew Jones finished with 11 points.

 

Captain of Jamaica, Jovan Thomas “It was a good game we played, we tried to show our best abilities but Puerto Rico was more technical than us.”

 

Coach of Jamaica, Steve Davis: “I am proud of the guys, they showed good heart, good determination but with the lack of experience and exposure you need to work harder”.

 

Captain of Puerto Rico, Gabriel Garcia: “This was a very interesting match. Jamaica showed very good defense. We could also serve and defend. It was good”.

 

Coach of Puerto Rico, Juan Albarrán:

“We began with a victory. That´s important, and obviously we look forward to get the first place in our pool. Jamaica showed great attitide and big wishes to defend, bu tour service level was good”
