Moreno scores 26 in five-set win of Caribeñas
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 2, 2019 – Erasma Moreno
scored a match-high 26 points to lead defending champions
Caribeñas to a 3-2 (15-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 15-11) victory
over Cristo Rey in opening day of the Women’s Dominican
Volleyball Superior League on Friday.
Candida Arias added 15 points, including five blocks, in the
victory while Annerys Vargas and Vielka Peralta each contributed
Gina Mambru had 21 points in the losing effort, followed by
Marifranchi Rodriguez with 15 points. Romina Cornelio and
Estefany Rabit each had 11 points while Madeline Guillén
finished with 10.
In an earlier match on Friday, Mirador defeated Guerreras 3-1
(25-14, 25-15, 16-25, 25-19).
Natalia Martínez had 23 points in the win. Yanlis Feliz and
Flormarie Heredia added 13 and 12, respectively. Priscila Rivera
topped the losers with 18 points followed by Dahiana Burgos with
13 including five aces.
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of the Female Project of the
Dominican Federation made the ceremonial first serve accompanied
by Danilo Diaz, minister of Sports, Luis Mejía, president of the
Dominican Olympic Committee, Ramón García, president of the
Dominican Federation, Horacio Mazara, president of the
Organizing Committee and Angel Rivas, president of the National
District Volleyball Association.
