NORCECA Women’s Championship set to begin in Puerto Rico

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 5, 2019 – The NORCECA Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship will be played at Roberto Clemente Coliseum of Hato Rey from October 8 to 13.

 

United States, Dominican Republic, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Rico are the eight teams registered to participate.

 

The top three ranked teams not already qualified at the end of the competition will get tickets to compete at the NORCECA Qualification Tournament to the Tokyo 2020 Games next January in Santo Domingo.

 

The United States are qualified to the Olympic Games as winners of one of the six FIVB world qualifiers and the Dominican Republic is qualified as host country of the confederation tournament and runner-ups of the NORCECA Champions Cup in Colorado Springs won by USA last August.

 

Teams and international referees are scheduled to arrive on October 6 with the Control Committee one day earlier. Preliminary inquiry of the teams, inspection visits to the training and official venues, and the general technical meeting will take place on October 7.

 

Canada and Cuba will play the first match of the competition on Tuesday October 8 at 14:00.

 

The quarterfinals between the teams ranked second and third of each pool will be on October 11 with the winner playing the semifinals against the winners of the pools the following day.

 

The medal and positional matches will be played on October 13.
