NORCECA Men’s Challenge Cup will be in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, March 5, 2019 – The NORCECA Men’s Continental Challenge Cup Final Four Qualification Tournament will take place at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum in Havana, Cuba.

The winner of the competition will be awarded the last vacancy to the Men’s Challenge Cup to the FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) to be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia from July 3-7.

The teams qualified to participate in the Norceca challenge are: Cuba as the host nation plus Mexico, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. In case one of those teams decides to not take part it would be replaced by the next ranked team from Norceca.

Teams will arrive in Havana on June 12 to compete under a round-robin format from 13 to 16 with the top ranked team earning the right to play in Slovenia.

The United States and Canada are the two Norceca teams already qualified to the FIVB Men’s Nations League. At the inaugural VNL last year, USA finished third while Canada ended in seventh place.

Cuba won last year’s Norceca Challenge Cup held at home in Pinar del Rio with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-16) victory over Costa Rica.
