NORCECA President meets with Cuban Olympic leader

 

HAVANA, Cuba, January 28, 2017 – NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz completed a visit to Cuba where the leader of volleyball in North, Central America and the Caribbean met with the main sport authorities of the country.

 

The visit of Marte Hoffiz was reported by Granma, the daily newspaper of Cuba in a story written by journalist Adolfo Nacianceno.

 

Marte Hoffiz was received by Jose Ramón Fernandez, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, and Antonio Becali, president of the Cuban Sport Institute (INDER). He was accompanied by Cuban volleyball legend Mireya Luis, a three-time Olympic gold medalist.

 

The president of NORCECA also held working sessions with the members of the Cuban Volleyball Federation led by its President Ariel Sainz.

 

Cuba will be the host country of the U18 Girls’ Pan American Cup next March which offers two tickets to NORCECA countries to the age-group FIVB World Championship later this year in Argentina.

 

Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Argentina and Dominican Republic all have shown interest in taking part. Argentina and Dominican Republic are already qualified to the world event.

 

Marte Hoffiz announced that starting this year five to eight new playing floors will arrive in Cuba as part of the development program of volleyball at different levels as well as volleyballs for the practice of mini-volley.
