NORCECA Refereeing Commission meets with Paredes
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 23, 2021 – The
NORCECA Refereeing Commission held a virtual meeting on Monday
with the participation of Guillermo Paredes, president of the
FIVB Refereeing and Rules of the Game Commission.
NORCECA president, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, chaired the meeting
and pronounced the welcoming words to all the participants. Guy
Bradbury, president of NORCECA Commission and Jose Ramón Perez
Vento, advisor, also took part.
Marte Hoffiz thanked the virtual presence of members from all
the zones of NORCECA and announced that the Pan American Junior
Games to be held in Cali, Colombia next September will be a good
opportunity for the development of the confederation new wave of
referees.
Marte Hoffiz said the first volleyball competitions of the year
scheduled within NORCECA area the U23 Pan American Junior Games
Qualification Tournaments in Cuba (Men) and Dominican Republic
(Women) on June 5-13.
Paredes made a complete report of the refereeing and rules of
the game topics discussed during the 37th FIVB
Congress held virtually.
Among the new rules of the game is the one referred to the
libero players who will be eligible to be named captain of their
teams.
Paredes mentioned the upcoming VNL to be held under the bubble
system to protect the wellbeing of all the participants,
including players, coaches and referees.
Bradbury made an overview of the activities of NORCECA
Refereeing Commission saying there are open opportunities for
the development of the referees once the junior and youth
competitions resume in both NORCECA and FIVB.
Marte Hoffiz closed the meeting expressing optimism about the
future of the competitions seeing the light at the end of the
tunnel with the vaccination process currently going on
throughout the world.
“Hopefully we will be back where we were at the beginning of
2020 aiming to our goals of increasing the number of female
referees and having at least one international referee in each
of our country members,” Marte Hoffiz said. |
