NORCECA approves qualification based on excellence and equity

 

   

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 25, 2015 – NORCECA Board of Administration and Executive Committee approved a qualifying system to the age-group and senior FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships based on the principles of equity and opportunities to promote development of the sport in the region.

 

The BOA voted in favor of distributing the six vacancies granted to NORCECA for the U17, U19 and U21 FIVB World Championships considering both excellence and development.

 

According to the decision the top two ranked countries in each qualification tournament will get automatic tickets to the world championships and the next four spots will be assigned to the highest ranked country from each of the four zones within the confederation – Central America, Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean and North Central.

 

The Board also approved the proposal to distribute four vacancies to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Netherlands among the top non-qualified countries to the world event.

 

Costa Rica, Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala will be represented in the women’s segment while Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Cuba and Mexico will take part in the men’s competition.

 

United States and Canada, the top ranked countries of NORCECA, have qualified teams to the competition trough the FIVB Entry National Federation Ranking. As of May 25, United States and Canada have four and two men’s teams, respectively, and two and three women’s teams qualified to the Netherlands.

 

The Board also approved the dates, host countries and pool distribution (based on the senior rankings) for the confederation’s double gender events as follows: U17 Championships in Saint Lucia (July 8 to 13), U19 Championship in Cayman Islands from August 12-17), and U21 Championships in Guatemala City (July 29-August 3).
