SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 22, 2013 – The NORCECA Confederation has conferred the Order of Grand Golden Cordon to its past president Luis –Lulo- Mendoza of Puerto Rico, who presided over the institution for thirteen years (1988-2001).

The decision to honor Mendoza was adopted on Sunday by the Executive Committee and Board of Administration of NORCECA following a proposal submitted by NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, seconded by Marta Centeno de Sajche and Lucille Hobson.

“With this well deserved recognition we pay homage to his meritorious and outstanding services to this sport institution,” Marte Hoffiz said.

Marte Hoffiz made references to Mendoza’s efforts to maintain active the organization through “very difficult times” during the years of his presidency.

“We have decided to confer Luis Mendoza the Grand Golden Cordon, which is the biggest honor for an individual in NORCECA,” he added. “That’s the way we all attest our respect and recognition to his long and fruitful career in international volleyball.”

Marte Hoffiz, Centeno, Hobson, Mushtaque Mohammed, Bertha Cuadra, Mireya Luis, and Nelson Ramirez were commissioned to personally present the recognition to Mendoza, whose state of health has been delicate lately.
