New record for highest scoring set

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 13, 2021 - Puerto Rico and Costa Rica set a new record for the highest scoring set in the history of the U-23 Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup last Thursday.

The teams engaged in a first-set battle in which Puerto Rico prevailed 34-32, erasing the previous record of 29-27 established when Peru beat Argentina on September 9, 2014 and later equaled by Argentina over the Dominican Republic on September 20, 2016.

Puerto Rico and Costa Rica proceeded to play to the maximum of five sets with the Puerto Ricans winning the game 3-2 (34-32, 25-19, 17-25, 20-25, 16-14).

The 227 points scored by the two teams fell short by one point of the highest scoring match in the history of the event when Peru and Argentina totaled 228 points in the 2014 match won by the Peruvians 3-2 (22-25, 25-27, 25-22, 29-27, 15-11).
