Newberry and Sparks win Girls’ Pool A with 3-0 record
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, October 11, 2018 – Devon Newberry and
Lindsey Sparks of United States won Pool A of the Girls’ Beach
Volleyball Tournament of the Youth Olympic Games with an
undefeated 3-0 record.
Newberry and Sparks completed their participation in the first
round of the event with a 2-0 (21-8, 21-18) victory over Brenda
Churrin and Delfina Villar of Argentina on Thursday.
In Pool D, María Juarez and Paola Alvarado (1-2) of Guatemala
defeated Egypt’s Nariman Yasser and Nada Hamdy 2-0 (21-11,
21-10) for their first victory in the competition.
In Pool E, Allanis Navas and María González (2-1) of Puerto Rico
suffered their first loss when succumbed 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) to
Claudia Scampoli and Ncol Bertozzi of Italy.
In the boys’ division:
In Pool F, Timothy Brewster and John Schwengel (2-1) of United
States defeted Rabiently Mercalina and Brian Howell (0-3) of
Aruba 2-0 (21-15, 21-13).
In Pool G, Alexandre Lezcano and Criforth Lobo (2-1) of Costa
Rica outplayed Kelvn Carboo and Eric Tsatsu of Ghana 2-0 (21-16,
In Pool C, Lukas Pfretzchner and Filip John of Germany crushed
Enrico Louraine and Micah Glascow (0-3) of St Vincent and
Grenadines 2-0 (21-3, 21-9).
