Nicaragua and El Salvador triumph at U-21 BVB

 

SAN JUAN DEL SUR, Nicaragua, May 26, 2013 – Nicaragua and El Salvador were crowned champions of men and women, respectively, at the U-21 Central American Beach Volleyball Championship held here over the weekend.

 

Nicaragua’s Ruben Mora and Miguel Lopez successfully defended the title they had won last year, while Maria Vargas and Kathy Vasquez gave El Salvador its first gold medal in this age-group category.

 

In an all-Nicaragua gold medal match, Mora/Lopez of Nicaragua-A defeated Gerson Contreras and Luis Lopez of Nicaragua-B 21-15, 21-13 retaining the crown won in Puerto Cortez, Honduras in 2012.

 

Anthony Solis and Andrey Quintero of Costa Rica-B claimed the bronze medal with a 2-1 (15-21, 21-19, 15-11) victory over brothers Carlos and Armando Guatemala of El Salvador.

 

In the women’s division, Vargas/Vasquez beat Maria Andrea Orellana and Nadia Vargas of Guatemala 21-14, 21-18 to win the gold medal.

 

Valeria Valenciano and Angie Alfaro of Costa Rica-A downed Socorro Lopez and Denisse Lopez of Nicaragua-A 21-17, 21-16 for the bronze medal.
