Nicaragua
beats Costa Rica in three sets
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador,
November 16, 2013.- Nicaragua beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-22, 26-24,
25-18) on the last day of actions of the 15th Boy’s U21 Central
American Championship.
Nicaragua controlled mostly
the entire match as Costa Rica put up a stronger resistance
during the second set. Both teams finish the tournament with 3-2
record, but Nicaragua with 19 points and Costa Rica with 13.
The winners were dominant over
the net with 50-31 advantage in kills; they were also more
efficient in serves by 3-1. Costa Rica held advantage in
blocking points by 7-4.
Nicaragua’s Kevin Duarte led
his team with 19 points, followed by ChristoferLazo and Ruben
Mora with 15 and 12 points respectively. Cesar Gomez was the
best scorer for Costa Rica with 17 points.
Captain Brayan Orozco of
Nicaragua was thrilled with the victory, he said “our goal was
to finish in three sets; this is the fourth consecutive occasion
we beat Costa Rica and that makes me proud of my team”.
“Nicaragua is always strong, I
congratulate them; as for us, we weren’t able to correct our
errors in blocking the entire match” expressed Andres Araya of
Costa Rica.
“We should have played like
this the whole tournament; today we performed strong and my
opposite players as my libero did a splendid job” indicated
Nicaragua’s coach Osman Hernandez.
Coach Mauricio Prado of Costa
Rica admitted they knew Nicaragua was tough “they have better
physical condition than us. My team had four players with minor
injuries and their confidence was diminished”. |
