Nicaragua claims second win  

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 19, 2021 - Nicaragua achieved its second victory of the XXI Senior Central American Volleyball Cup by beating Guatemala 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) in one of the matches “ Clásicos ”in the region due to the great rivalry between the two.

Dalia Conto was very effective in her attacks through the central zone, scoring 15 points, especially in the second set (9), while Valeska Hernández contributed 14, six of them in the first set, which they dominated widely. Josafat Díaz was also an important element, with 7 points in the third set, to add 14 in the match.

María García, for the second game in a row, was the best scorer in Guatemala, this time with 14 points, by 9 for Rut Gómez, who lowered her production as a result of the good Nicaraguan blocking, who led the attack 41-31, the blocking 9-7 and service 3-2.

Guatemala managed to press in the second and third sets, having a chance to win the second when they went ahead 21-20, but Nicaragua reacted with a pair of defensive plays by libero Miriam Blandino and effective blocks by Josafat Díaz.

In the third, Nicaragua took the lead by more than six points, but Guatemala adjusted with some changes, such as the re-entry of Marta Guillermo, but Nicaragua's attacks through the middle zone were difficult to control.

Nicaragua will play this Wednesday against Honduras at 7:00 p.m., while Guatemala will have a tough game against Costa Rica at 4:00 p.m.
