Ninth leg of the NORCECA BVB Circuit spikes off Friday

PIGEON POINT, St Lucia, October 10, 2013 - The ninth leg of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit spikes off here on Friday morning.

Sixteen men’s pairs, as well as fifteen women’s pairs will do battle for honours in the three day tournament which culminates on Sunday.

Heading up the men’s play is the Mexican duo of Ulises Ontiveros and Tomas Aguilera, while the USA’s A team combination of Heather Hughes and Lane Carico is the ranked number one among the women.

When the eighth leg was staged last week in California, USA, Hughes and Carico saw off fellow Americans Sarah Day and Kaitlin Nielsen of USA-B, 2-0, to take the gold medal at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.

In the process, the duo earned the Americans’ 17th gold medal on the NORCECA Beach Volleyball circuit. There, they played unbeaten winning all ten sets in their five matches.

In this St Lucia outing, Carico will be looking to make it three straight win, as she teamed up with Sara Hughes in the seventh leg to win gold in Puerto Rico last month.

Thirty matches, using the three courts are set for Friday and will all teams in action including the top seeds.

Ontiveros and Aguilera take on Costa Rican pair of Zlatko Piskulih/Alex Villegas and St Kitts and Nevis’ Kemoroy Percival / St Clair Hodge. Among the women, Hughes and Carico face off with Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer of St Kitts and Nevis.
