Jimenez Lao is new president of Costa Rica NF

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, November 10, 2012 – Jose Luis Jimenez Lao was elected as new president of the Costa Rican Volleyball Federation for the next two years.

In a close voting that took three rounds, Jimenez Lao edged Minor Valenciano, the acting president following the appointment of former president William Corrales as minister of sport of Costa Rica. Valenciano will continue to preside over the beach volleyball department.

Lao, who is currently the general secretary of NORCECA Volleyball Confederation, has had a long career in volleyball as player, referee and manager and has been part of different executive committees both national and international.

The new president confirmed that his immediate duties are to prepare the national teams both men’s and women’s for the Central American Senior Tournament and the Central American Games of 2013.

“The idea is to improve the results of the national teams and that Costa Rica transcend at the international level,” said Jimenez Lao.

One of the most ambitious projects of Jimenez Lao is to have a volleyball complex with two, three or four courts with all the conditions for training.

He also considered of vital importance to take advantage of the new national women’s coach Horacio Bastit of Argentina, to train the technical staff of the minor leagues and to improve the level of the sport.
