St. Lucia silences Antigua/Barbuda with straight set victory

St. Johns, Antigua, November 23, 2012- The highly anticipated clash between Antigua/Barbuda and St. Lucia  ended in the home crowd being silenced as St. Lucia won in straight sets (25 -23; 25-19 and 25 -22) as Day 2 of the East Caribbean Volleyball Association Senior Women Championship came to a close.

Florain Combie of St. Lucia said that his team played with a strong sense of character and purpose. "We knew that we wanted to win the first set in particular to take the home crowd factor out of it  and when we did it took some wind out of their sails. After taking the first two sets then the third was pivotal  and I have to commend my captain who was very instrumental in the come from behind victory,"  he recounted.

Coach of the Antigua team - Esron Gittens  accepted the fact that they lost a hard fought game. "We hurt ourselves with too many unforced errors and some poor positioning  but not withstanding that St. Lucia is a pretty good team that played a strong game. We now have to regroup  and execute much better in our final game against BVI.

St. Lucia is now well place to win group A as they are the favourites going into the final  group game against Anguilla.
