Jamaica claims first victory

 

KINGSTON, Jamaica, November 29, 2012. - Host Jamaica claimed their first victory winning over Cayman Islands in straight sets 25-7, 25-15 and 25-14 at the NORCECA Group E First Round Qualification for the FIVB 2014 Women’s World Championship.

 

Jamaica defeated Cayman Islands looking well in their debut and dominating Cayman Islands that became stronger during the match.

 

The top player for Jamaica with 11 points was Lecia Brown. For Cayman Islands, Anita Lansdell scored 4 points.

 

Shedeiky Hamilton, Jamaican captain saw this as a practice match for them “we’ve played against Cayman Islands so we knew we had the opportunity to perfect our skills”.

 

Cayman Islands captain, Anita Lansdell said “we are hoping to build as each game goes by; we have been practicing together for several months so things are improving.”

 

Coach Gatashew Bonner of Jamaica indicated that five of his players play overseas and they are adjusting to the team “this team is a mixture of experience and youth, we just finished a practice camp to work together; there is still things to improve, like our passing.”

 

Keith Higgins for Cayman Islands was proud of his team’s effort, “we played very well against a more experienced team than ours, as I said before we are rebuilding.”
