Webb-Bonner, Hamilton-Wright cop volleyball titles
KINGSTON, Jamaica, November 6, 2012 - The teams of Ryck Webb and
Gatasheu Bonner and Shadeiky Hamilton and Kai Wright claimed the
top awards in the Justbet/TVJ SN Beach Volleyball Competition in
the finals at Barbican last Saturday.
Bonner and Webb stopped Donovan Richards and Dellan Brown,
21-18, 21-18, to take the men's title, while Hamilton and Wright
beat Cherine Richards and Cheryl Daley, 21-16, 22-20, for the
women's crown.
"We started out setting ourselves a major goal which was to win
the tournament. Along the way we set ourselves minor goals in
not losing a set, and we've achieved that," Bonner told the
Jamaica Observer.
Wright was pleased to have upset the favourites.
"We knew this tournament was gonna be hard because they are the
national representatives. They are the first-timers coming in.
We just used our indoor skills because we both play for Jamaica
and we won this game and I'm just so excited."
Jamaica Amateur Volleyball Association President Major Warrenton
Dixon expressed pleasure with the outcome of the competition in
its inaugural year.
"When we were about to start I said to myself I'm looking
forward to the 3rd of November because I want to hear what
people would have said about the competition. I want to hear
people say, 'when are we doing this again', and I'm hearing a
lot of those questions," he said.
