Seven countries recognized in NORCECA Congress for teams achievements

ANTIGUA, Guatemala, October 23, 2009 – The seven countries of NORCECA Confederation to be represented in next year’s FIVB World Championships in Italy and Japan, received plaques of recognition for the achievements of their eleven men and women teams. The ceremony took place during the first working session at the XX NORCECA Congress.

 

The plaques were presented by Mr. Jizhong Wei, President of FIVB accompanied by Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, First Executive Vice President and Mrs. Marta Centeno de Sajche, FIVB Executive Vice President.

 

Mr. Wei also presented certificates of participation to all the NORCECA teams who competed in the different rounds of the 2010 FIVB World Championships throughout the year.

 

The assembly also paid homage in memoriam of the late coach Felipe Calderon of Cuba, Mr. Libertario Perez, former President of NORCECA of Puerto Rico, and Professor Alejandro Salinas de la Garza, former President of the Mexican Volleyball Federation and First Executive Vice President of NORCECA.

 

During the opening ceremony of the XX NORCECA Congress welcoming words were pronounced by Mr. Enrique Santis, President of the Guatemalan Federation, Mr. Fernando Bertranena Valladares, President of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee, Mr. Marte Hoffiz,  President of NORCECA, and Mr. Wei.

 

Mr.Marte Hoffiz presented a complete report of the NORCECA competitions of the past two years including senior, junior and youth categories. Also on the participation of NORCECA Teams in the FIVB World Grand Prix and World League and in the FIVB Junior and Youth World Championships among several others.

 

Also the Commissions of Sports Organization, Medical, Beach Volleyball, Technical and Coaches, Refereeing and Media presented complete reports.
