Castro Verdugo and Mushtaque elected to FIVB Board of Administration

ANTIGUA, Guatemala, October 24, 2009 – Mexican Saul Castro Verdugo and Trinidadian Mushtaque Mohammed were elected by the XX NORCECA Congress to fill the vacancies of the organization in the FIVB Board of Administration.

 

The candidature of both sport leaders was submitted by the Executive Committee of NORCECA and received the unanimous vote of the assembly.

 

Castro Verdugo replaces Mrs. Marta Centeno de Sajche who was elevated to FIVB Executive Vice President and Mushtaque substitutes Puerto Rican Carlos Beltran, who had resigned the position. Previously Mrs.Centeno de Sajche had filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the former FIVB President, the Mexican Dr. Ruben Acosta.

 

Castro Verdugo is currently the General Director of the Sport Institute of Baja California, Mexico and has been the president of the organizing committee of three FIVB World Championhips held in Tijuana and Mexicali since 2007 in the Youth and Junior categories.

 

Mushtaque has presided for many years the Caribbean Zone Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) and is a Vice President of the Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee.

 

In other resolutions of the NORCECA Congress:

Castro Verdugo was elected as NORCECA First Executive Vice President replacing the late Professor Alejandro Salinas de la Garza.

Costa Rican Jose Luis Jimenes Lao replaced Centeno de Sajche as Secretary General as the later was elected as Vice President for the Central American Zone as new President of AFECAVOL.

 

Puerto Rican Nelson Perez was elected as member of the Board of Administration in place of Beltran who resigned.

 

Also Puerto Rican Arnaldo Sanchez was elected as President of the Beach Volleyball Commission and Nicaraguan Judith Sandino as President of the created Statistics and VIS Commission.
