Organizers of NORCECA Qualifier Tokyo 2020 Take the Oath

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 6, 2019 - The Organizing Committee of the Tokyo 2020 Women's Volleyball Qualifying Tournament of the North, Central American and Caribbean Confederation (NORCECA) was sworn in on Wednesday by the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Luís Mejía Oviedo, who was accompanied by Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, President of NORCECA, and Danilo Díaz, Minister of Sports.

 

 The ceremony was carried out in the office of Mr. José Luis (Pepín) Corripio Estrada, a member of the Organizing Committee that will be chaired by José Ramón Peralta, Administrative Minister of the Presidency. It is also integrated by Mr. Fernando Hasbún, President of Grupo SIN; David Collado, Mayor of the National District; Ligia Bonetti, President of the SID Group; Milagros Cabral, Director of Institutional Relations of the National Volleyball Project and Olga Torres Perera, Director of COCO & CO Marketing Deportivo.

 

Marte Hoffiz commented: “We are more than proud of having all of you as part of this process of carrying the Queens of the Caribbean to Tokyo 2020.”

 

The Organizing Committee will be responsible for coordinating the assembly and logistics actions of the qualifier, as well as ensuring an optimal development of the event to be held at the Sports Palace of Santo Domingo.

 

During the swearing-in, José Ramón Peralta, President of the Organizing Committee said: “we are very proud that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has delegated such an important continental event to our country; we are working to take full advantage of this unique opportunity. I am sure that our Queens will continue their legacy of success, with the qualification to the Olympic Games, for the third time and here on their land”.

 

Mr. Corripio said: "For me it is a privilege to participate in the organization of this event never seen in the Dominican Republic, and to contribute to offer a high level scenario, of the quality of our Caribbean Queens that have given so much pride to the nation".

 

He added: “Behind every triumph there is a path of battle, effort and sacrifice and we recognize in our Queens the best values of the women in the Dominican Republic. We will do everything possible to have our national team reigning in Tokyo 2010.”

 

An appointment that no Dominican should miss:

The NORCECA qualifier will be held from January 10 to 12 of next year at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace and has the support of MercaSID as the main sponsor. The Queens of the Caribbean will be competing against Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, and the first place winner will take the ticket for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
