Organizers of WCH Qualifier in Dominican Republic officially installed

 

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic, March 6, 2014 – The Organizing Committee of the Women’s World Championship Qualification Tournament NORCECA Group P to be held in La Romana, on the southeast of the Dominican Republic, was officially installed on Wednesday.

 

The committee is under the presidency of Mr. Juan Santana Medrano, Governor of the province and its members include Ms. Amarilis Santana, Senator of La Romana, and the congressmen Teodoro Reyes, Eugenio Cedeno and Plutarco Perez.

 

Ramon García and Nelson Ramirez, president and general secretary, respectively, of the Dominican Republic Volleyball Federation are also members.

 

Teams of Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guadeloupe and Dominican Republic will compete under a round-robin format for one spot to the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Italy from May 13-19 at Eleoncio Mercedes Gymnasium.

 

 After taking the oath in the presence of Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, President of NORCECA Confederation, Mr. Santana Medrano promised to work along with the other members of the Organizing Committee in order to have a successful event.

 

“We are aiming to win two gold medals, one as organizers and the other with our national team,” he said. “I am sure that we will be able to present a successful event here and we are so grateful to the National Federation for this opportunity granted to the city of La Romana.”

 

During the visit to La Romana, Mr. Marte Hoffiz and other officials of NORCECA made inspection visits to the competition venue and the hotels for players, referees and control committee members.

 

Italy will host the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship from September 23 to October 12 in 2014 with the participation of 24 teams, including six from NORCECA Confederation.

 

The 24 teams will be divided into four pools of six teams for the first round which will be a round robin system over five days – three matches per day - with four cities (Rome, Trieste, Bari and Verona) hosting a pool each.
