Organizers of the Pan American Cup take the oath in Santo Domingo

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 23, 2018 – The Major General Elvis Marcelino Féliz Pérez took the oath for his position as president of the organizing committee of the XVII Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup to be disputed in Santo Domingo from July 6 to 15.

 

The oath was administered by Luis Mejia Oviedo, president of the Dominican Olympic

Committee.

 

Other members of the OC include Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, Honorary President, Alexis Garcia, general coordinator, Nelson Ramirez, general director, Amos Anglade, technical director, and José Francisco Fernández, Doníbal Álvarez, José Aybar, Cosiris Rodríguez, Iris García, Víctor Gil, Ángel Rivas, Arateide Cáceres, José Guarionex Martínez, Germán Martínez, Henry Puello, Cayacoa Moquete, Roberto Colón, Franklin Segura, Bernardo Peña and Rudi Valdez, members.

 

Garcia pronounced the welcome words and immediately Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA, explained details of the competition and commented on the tradition of the cup.

 

Feliz Perez, who also presided over the organizing committee in 2016, said that he accepts the challenge to do it again with the same successful results.

 

The countries to be represented at the cup are: United States, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Canada, Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Costa Rica, Peru and Dominican Republic.

 

It will be the third time that Dominican Republic hosts the intercontinental competition with the other two in 2005 and 2016.

 

In 2005, Cuba defeated Dominican Republic for the gold medal with the bronze going to Brazil while in 2016, the Dominican Republic overcame Puerto Rico in five sets to claim the title with United States finishing in third place.

 

Last year, when the event took place in Peru, United States defeated the Dominican Republic for the gold medal and Puerto Rico finished third.
