Peru and Cuba set record for highest scoring set

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 14, 2018 – Teams of Peru and Cuba played the highest scoring set in the history of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup when the South American squad won 40-38 the second set of their match for the seventh position on Saturday.

 

They broke the former record of 70 points established on July 3, 2009 when Puerto Rico won the first set 36-34 against the Dominican Republic in the semifinals of the eighth edition of the event held in Miami, USA. The Dominican side would emerge as winner of the contest 3-2 (34-36, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-9).

 

The news was announced by Roosevelt Comarazamy, director of media and communications of NORCECA Confederation.

 

Other four high scoring sets in the history of the competition reached the 68-point mark at 35-33 with Brazil winning the first set against Puerto Rico in their preliminary round match contested on June 21, 2007 in Colima, Mexico.

 

The Dominican Republic won the second set of their preliminary encounter with Cuba held on July 5, 2011 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and the fourth set of their preliminary clash with Brazil in Lima, Peru on June 10, 2013.

 

Also in that event in the Peruvian capital, Colombia won the first set against Costa Rica in their consolation match for the 9-12 positions on June 15, 2013.
