Ponce takes 2-1 lead in friendly series

PONCE, Puerto Rico, January 13, 2017 – American Taylor Simpson collected 20 points as Ponce Lionesses defeated Dominican Republic 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 15-10) to take a 2-1 lead in the friendly female volleyball series.

Simpson had 4 blocks and two aces as Ponce outclassed the Dominican team in aces (11-3) and held the edge in the blocking category (12-10).

Deme Morales had 12 points for the winners while Nelmarie Cruz added 7 in the victory.

Yonkaira Peña had a match-high 23 points for the Dominican Republic while Erasma Moreno finished with 13 points in the loss. Gaila Gonzalez and Annerys Vargas added 11 and 8 points, respectively.

The series serve to prepare Ponce for the upcoming Puerto Rican National League while the Dominicans are warming up for the international season.
